About
I went to UBC to be an archaeologist, but realized I was more interested in the people themselves than digging their artifacts out of the dirt. I changed my focus to anthropology and had a really amazing four years learning about how different people are around the world—and how much more similar we are than we realize.
After earning my BA I enrolled in SFU’s communications program because I became really interested in how technology in particular affects society and peoples’ interactions. I took a co-op job at a world championship event in Vancouver, where I learned my graphics and marketing skills. When my co-op semester was over I was flooded with projects from event sponsors and staff and co-founded small graphic design, event planning and marketing company.
My last three years as a small business owner have taught me a lot about being stubborn and resourceful in order to reach my goals. The skills I learned are so valuable to my journalism career; getting a new client is very similar to cultivating a news source, for example.
At BCIT, I’ve been able to really distinguish myself as a hard-working and intelligent student. My organized and creative approach to my work has made an impression on my instructors, who have told me I’m making great progress. |
